Pi Lambda Chi
ΠΛΧ was the result of the hard work and effort of fourteen unique young ladies who found that existing campus groups did not fully meet their needs. Some women believed it would be founded to build a support system to help overcome the obstacles a Latina must overcome in higher education and in life. Others envisioned it as the beginning of the Latina contribution to the ethnic Greek system already in place. Some saw it as an academic support network, while still others saw it as an opportunity to unite Latinas on campus and help promote education in the Latino community. Community service in the Latino community, teaching and promoting awareness of Latina culture, sisterhood, and embracing their uniqueness were all things these women strove to include in the organization they were creating. What they felt most in their hearts was the importance of building a bridge across the rough waters of life for the Pi Lambda Chi sisters yet to attend college and even those yet to be born. Why join a fraternity or sorority?
Lifelong Friendships
Membership in a fraternity or sorority is more than wearing Greek letters, attending meetings and going to parties. It is an experience that fosters a place of belonging where friendships can grow into deeply rooted relationships that will last a lifetime. Joining a chapter can help you feel connected at UCCS both as a student and an alumni. Most importantly, it can provide you a safe place where you know can count on your brothers and sisters in good times and in challenging times. It’s not just four years, it’s for life!
Leadership Opportunities

One of the key benefits of membership in a fraternal organization is the leadership development opportunities that can help you gain the valuable experience that you will need to compete in life after college. Fraternity and sorority members participate in a variety of programs that provide leadership development. There are many ways to be a leader in the UCCS community, including chapter or council officer positions, national or regional leadership conferences, campus-based leadership opportunities and committee involvement.
Academic Excellence

Academic excellence is a vital aspect of fraternity and sorority membership at UCCS. Scholastic standards are important for each chapter and the community as a whole. Programming, incentives, recognition and ongoing support help fraternity and sorority members achieve academic success. Academic achievement is the reason students are at UCCS; fraternities and sororities are designed to help their members meet that goal.
Campus Involvement

While each chapter wants all members to be active within their organization, engagement with campus is an important connection that will help members build a stronger affinity to their alma mater. Fraternity & Sorority Life is involved in events on campus through service, co-sponsoring events, Club & Organization fairs and much more!
Giving Back

Service and philanthropy is a meaningful part of fraternity and sorority involvement. It is perhaps the most personally rewarding experience as members are provided with opportunities to participate in hands-on volunteer work and implement philanthropic events to raise money for charitable causes. The opportunities ensure that fraternity and sorority members will have an impact on their community and develop lifelong habits of giving back.
Campus Connections

Membership in a recognized fraternity or sorority provides an opportunity for students to be embedded in the fabric of the UCCS community. We firmly believe that your experience in your chapter and at UCCS are not mutually exclusive. Both are important and may serve different needs throughout your time as a student. And by embracing both experiences can help make your UCCS experience shine and help you stay connected after graduating.
